College Summer League Summer AABC/NBC Division
2024 will mark the 17th season of Coastal Baseball's Summer League.

1000's of players have played in the Coastal Baseball Summer League since 2008 from colleges all over Texas and around the US. The season begins the first week of June and ends in the middle of July. Teams play 3-4 games a week. Primary field is MacGregor Park. Secondary field is Coastal Park. The Coastal Baseball League Teams are no longer required to send teams to NABF, AABC or NBC World Series. Teams that want to goto these tournaments will be able to enter regional qualifying tournaments at the end of the season. Over the course of the years teams have wanted to focus on playing games within the Houston area and preventing travel.

Over the last several years Coastal Baseball paid registrations to all of these leagues and in the end no teams wanted to compete in these tournaments. Current players really would like to have the season end in the middle of July. Players are also no longer wanting to travel in summer. Coastal Baseball is also proud home to the Pecos Spring League in March
Since 2008 the Coastal Baseball League has operated a Semi/Pro Collegiate Summer League. The Coastal Baseball League does not require players to have eligiblity to play in the league. Player/Managers are eligible and often used and game formats are mainly doubleheaders both days of the weekends.
The Big States League was a collegiate summer baseball league based in Katy Texas that was a qualifiying league for the NBC World Series in Wichita. The League was ran from the early 1990s-2006 by Ray Duncan. Harold Bennett took the league over and in 2003 he had 16 teams. SemiPro Baseball was quickly being replaced by Independent Baseball and the formation of the Texas Collegiate League meant the days of the Big States League were numbered. Players could get on a team in the Texas Collegiate League and play six days a week in professionally ran environments. The league was wooden bat and has gotten better every year.
In 2007 the Big States League could not get enough teams to have a league. This was a sign of things to come as it rained in the Houston-Beaumont Area for 35 out of 45 days. Some teams were only to get 11 games in all summer. Andrew Dunn from the Houston Apollos was given the task of taking over the league. The Apollos filed for the charter and received the bid to Wichita. The Apollos finished in 9th place in the NBC World Series that year winning three games. The most wins by a Texas Team ever since the inception of Wooden Bats.
The Big States League folded in 2006, the Coastal League started in 2007 The college/semi pro landscape is much different in 2015 than it was in 1994. In the prime times of the Big States League there was no Texas Collegiate League/Independent Leagues.

Todays players have alot more league to choose from to play. There are over 106 Summer College Baseball Leagues across the United States. In 2006 there were only 25. The new leagues such as the Futures League and the Perfect Game League are ran as a for profit business by owners who own professional teams. Players play up to 65 games in a summer and get much greater exposure than playing four games a weekend in Southeast Texas and Louisiana.

Houston Texas just by the nature of its location will get top level prospects who will goto affliated baseball. The Coastal League and Big States League are examples. See players below who have played in the Coastal League/Big States League and then onto affliated baseball:
In 2013 more changed occured on the tournament landscape the NBC World Series changed its format to where there is a prelimary week where 16 teams play a double elimination tournament. The top teams advance the second week. There the other 14 teams play for the title beginning the 2nd week. Coastal Baseball League sent a team to the NBC World Series in the 2013 season.

The AABC moved its Stan Musial World Series from Florida to New York and although there is very limited Internet Coverage it is a great tournament for older players.

The NBC World Series has only 32 teams and in 2012 13 of them were from Kansas, gone are the days of 60 teams and teams coming from Coast to Coast. The AABC Stan Musial World Series moved from Battle Creek to Huntsville, Texas in 2006. In 2010 it moved to Houston, Texas. In 2012 it moved to Port St Lucie. In 2013 it moved to Farmingdale, NY. It appears to be in Farmingdale to stay.

Houston and Coastal Baseball has a deep history with AABC. Westchase Express won the 2015 World Series. In 2009 with the World Series held in Huntsville, Tx in August a team from Puerto Rico and a team withdrew in the last week. The League City Hornets and Bayou City Bears were emergency replacement teams in the 2009 season.

In 2011 the AABC needed a sixth team in the South Plains Regional. The Houston Apollos entered and won the regional and qualified for a birth in the World Series.

Westchase Express played in the AABC World Series in 2012, 2013 and 2014. In 2012 it moved to Port St Lucie, Florida and finally in 2013 to Farmingdale, New York. In 2014 Westchase Express finished in third placing reaching the final day of the World Series. In 2015 Westchase Express finally broke through and won the Stan Musial World Series. This is a historical honor that will be remembered in the all time record books.
The Coastal Baseball League has given 1000's of players the opportunity to play baseball in the summer in Southeast Texas.
Houston Chronicle 2004 Article Big time in Big States baseball ahead / Wood-bat league offers top players in local format Lawrence Dumont Stadium now has fieldturf, gone is the historic 1980's Astroturf with cutouts, everything is turf except the mound.
